Documentary about Malayattoor-Kurisumudy -- a short video presentation... Concept and Direction - Fr.Vakkachan Kumpail. (St.Thomas at Malayattoor)... St. Thomas one of the Apostle of Jesus Christ landed at Kodungalloor in A.D.52. after 20 years of his missionary activities he was martyred on 3rd July 72 at Maylapore in Tamilnadu. Before his death he formed seven Christian Communities. They are Kodungalloor, Palayoor, Paravur (Kottakavu), Kokamangalam, Kollam, Chayal and Niranam. It is believed that during his journey from Kodungalloor to Madras through the Malayattoor forest, he reached at the hilltop and prayed there. During his prayer he made the sign of the cross on the rock. About 600 A.D the hunters went up to the mountain. During their night stay they saw a sign of the cross in golden colour. They struck there. To their surprise the blood began to flow from there. They reported it in the valley and the locals ran to the mountain in groups. This was the humble beginning of Kurisumudy pilgrimage. Yearly 60 Lakhs of people make their pilgrimage to this kurisumudy. Kurisumudy was declared as an Archdiocesssan Shrine on 4th September 1998. Vatican raised this shrine in to an International status on 11th February 2004. This is the only International Shrine in Asia. Kurisumudy is in the North Eastern Corner of Ernakulam district in Kerala, India. It is 1269 feet high from the sea level.
