Our First Full Day in Suriname Exploring Paramaribo & Picking Up the Rental

My Saamaka Roots January 22, 2025
20 January 2025 - Our first full day in Suriname kicked off after a decent night’s sleep—despite the rooster thinking sunrise was at 4 AM! 🐔😭 Adjusting to the time difference is still a work in progress. The main task today was picking up our rental car. I spent the morning editing videos on the porch at my makeshift desk, thanks to the preparations I did before the trip—clearing disk space, setting up a thumbnail template, and keeping a ChatGPT thread ready for quick help (no time to waste LOL). Our first taxi driver got lost, but luckily we had extra time, so no stress. The car rental was a bit of a surprise—just a regular house with a few cars. Our rental wasn’t in great shape, and driving it gave me foot cramps. Note to self: sometimes being TOO cheap isn’t worth it! 😅 Since we were close, we spontaneously drove to Paramaribo’s city center to withdraw some cash. We checked out Waka Pasi, the famous promenade, though most booths were closed since it was a quiet Monday afternoon. No crowds, which I didn’t mind at all! The weather was mostly sunny, not as hot as last year’s dry season. The short rainy season seems more typical this time, with rain starting later in the day and continuing into the night. No big plans for tomorrow—just going with the flow! #SurinameVlog #TravelWithMe #Suriname2025 #FirstDayInSuriname #ExploringParamaribo #WakaPasi #TravelAdventures #TropicalVibes #CaribbeanTravel #SurinameDiaries
