TRINIDAD MAN CHARGED WITH ELECTION BRIBERY- 6th May 2025

A 46-year-old man from Trinidad has been granted bail after being charged with election bribery. The accused appeared in court on Monday, May 5th, and was released on bail. He is scheduled to return to court on June 5th, 2025. The charge stems from a police investigation during the April 28th General Election, where the man was allegedly caught offering cash, between $300 and $400, to influence voters. He was arrested on election day and later charged on May 2nd under Section 96(2)(a) of Trinidad and Tobago’s election laws. During his arrest, the accused claimed he was paid $800 to drive and that the $30,000 in his possession came from a "sou sou." That sum was seized during a subsequent operation involving the Financial Investigations Branch. The charge comes in the wake of Trinidad and Tobago’s 2025 General Election held on Monday, April 28th, where allegations of voter bribery surfaced in key constituencies.
